Better Days
« on: June 10, 2008, 04:36:03 pm »
This is a very good comic, that has like emotional crap in it.  It may have some adult content within it though.  I would rate it PG-13.  Just in case, instead of posting the actual link, here is a link to a tribute video about it.  If interested, just go to the site under the info section.

Enjoy!  Laugh and cry like I did... not.

WARNING: Do not go to the site if you are offended by what is depicted in the video, and only go to the "Better Days" or "New Worlds" link under the Entertainment Menu if you do go to the site.  Wow, that is way too many warnings to go to a single comic.

Hm... that looks a lot like stuff from "Albedo", an anthropomorphic comic that was around in the late 80's and early 90's.

I haven't looked at the actual site yet, but I'm guessing you found it on a "Furry" site...   which doesn't automatically make it bad.

Some of that anthropomorphic stuff is pretty good, actually.  Omaha The Cat Dancer managed to show animal people and sex, and it still got mainstream acceptance (well, comics mainstream) because of it's good depictions of interpersonal relationships.

I'll take a look at this, as the artwork looks clean and I trust your taste in comics.  If you like anthropomorphic stuff, take a look at Purgatory Tower which starts HERE.  It's excellent, but I'll warn you now that it updates very slowly.

Actually, I found it through one of the many comics the great "Narbonic" promoted occasionally.

Sometimes you can't use "real" people to depict what is going on in your story or image.  It's difficult to get good looking characters with such a recognizable human form, and sometimes things you want them doing doesn't look right even with lots of special effects with live action.  That's why I believe anime is so useful in that regards.  Sometimes though even the human form can be more of a distraction to what you're trying to portray to someone who is not you; and so furry art is a good way of showing something recognizable to humans, without actually being human.  Facial features especially, you always look at the face in any human image.  With anime, furry, and others you look more at their body expressions and pay more attention to what they're doing.

The site was down the first time I tried to look at it... I saw the tribute video but the site itself wouldn't load.  I just came back to it, and took a look.  It's up again now.

Since you got scared, I'll post the link for you.  No one's going to censor me here.

For those that haven't figured it out yet, it's a site devoted to anthropomorphic images... with more than a few "sexually explicit" images.  Nothing overtly crude; it's all done rather tastefully (from what I've seen), but if you don't like the whole furry thing then it may annoy you.  If that's the case, exercise your free will and don't look at it.

As for my own opinion, furry is not my kink, but I like well-illustrated comic art.  I could do with less of an attempt to make it erotic art, but I still found the site nice from a comic-art perspective.  The artist does seem to have some talent, and his comics seem well-written.

Oh, and Chak, you should be aware that not every ad for a comic that you see on an artists's web site is actually a recommendation.  To earn money, most web comics allow for advertising banners.  Most of these banners use adrevolver or a similar script to rotate random ads.  It's very possible to see ads on a site which the author has never even heard of or read.  Not saying that is absolutely the case here, just a possibility you should be aware of.

*****EDIT***** Just finished reading the first 9 chapters... definitely good stuff.  I'm currently redesigning my website, and I'll add this to my list of recommended webcomics on the new site.

He has made a new comic after finishing Better Days!  I think he gave up on continuing the New Worlds comic sadly. :(

Original Life

It is about the kids of one of the main characters from Better Days.  There's the genius youngest daughter, the scrappy son, and the eldest athletic daughter.  They have much better childhoods than the Better Days short description of their own childhood.  It's so darn cute!

As always with Jay Naylor, the art is phenominal and I'm in love with the idea of the artist behind it.  Someday I too wish to get off my lazy butt and be able to do the things he and other artists I admire do.

Also, as a reference to my first post on Better Days, I would rate this PG.
